My grandfather had a favorite coffee cup. It was a heavy, brown Hull pottery mug, capable of holding a generous amount of coffee. For sixty-two years, he drank coffee out of the same Depression era mug. When he could no longer pour his own coffee, it still gave him great satisfaction to receive his coffee in the same beloved cup. It is a sentimental thing, such a small thing. But it is something that can be easily managed and that can add loving-kindness in life.
I have been blessed with several opportunities to give care for those whom I love. In some cases, I was a primary caregiver, tending to the physical needs of family members who had cancer and wished to remain within the comfort of their homes. In other cases, I was merely a supportive relative or friend, assisting others afflicted with Alzheimer's, strokes and respiratory disease. Caregiving involves more than sorting medications, updating charts, and seeing to the physical needs of the ones we love. Eventually, emotional and spiritual needs may arise for both caregiver and those we care for. Thus began my journey of grace. All members who are seeking respite or a place to nuture their soul as they care for those they love are welcome here. Group Tags
